Estonian Olympic Committee gave recognition to winners of non-Olympic international competitions

The Estonian Olympic Committee awarded a total of 29,000 euros to the winners of world and European championships in non-Olympic sports in 2020 as well as the athletes’ coaches.


Urmas Sõõrumaa, the president of the NOC, thanked the victorious athletes and their coaches. “The Estonian Olympic Committee is the country’s umbrella organization for sports, and we also support non-Olympic ones. Our athletes have displayed tremendous competitive spirit and the ability to win medals for Estonia even in this difficult time,” Sõõrumaa said.

Prizes for medals in international competitions are awarded in accordance with the procedure established by the Executive Board of the NOC. The NOC can reward winners of non-Olympic international competitions by the resolution of the Executive Board provided that financing is available.

The Estonian Olympic Committee will reward the individual non-Olympic athletes who have won world championships this year with the following amounts:

  • Erik Aaslav-Kaasik (Tallinna VMK), UIM F-125 champion: 3000 euros
  • Tiia Kaare (Bonsuna HC GYM), fitness and bodybuilding world champion in IFBB Women’s Bodyfitness up to 158 cm: 3000 euros
  • Boris Ljubtšenko (Black Team Estonia), world champion in GPS Speed Surfing, “sled” class: 3000 euros
  • Raigo Piho (Võsu Surfing School), world champion in GPS Speed Surfing, “kite” class: 3000 euros

The Estonian Olympic Committee will reward the individual non-Olympic athletes who have won European championships this year with the following amounts:

  • Karel Kutsar (Sõmerpalu MK), European champion in motocross, EMX-Open: 2000 euros
  • Mattias Reinaas (Kohila MK), UIM-ABP European Championship winner, SKI GP2: 2000 euros
  • Kärol Soodla (Tartu Kalev), UIM GT-30 European Championship winner: 2000 euros
  • Rene Suuk (Tallinna VMK), UIM OSY-400 European Championship winner: 2000 euros
  • Piibe Tammemäe (SK 100) and Hannula-Katrin Pandis (Ilves), European Rogaining Championship, women’s Open class: a total of 3000 euros
  • Timmo Tammemäe (SK 100) and Sander Linnus (Peko), European Rogaining Championship, men’s class: a total of 3000 euros
  • Ken Torn and Kauri Pannas, European Rally Championship: a total of 3000 euros

Athletes’ coaches will be awarded the following amounts:

  • Raigo Piho’s coach Kert Karus (level 4 according to the Estonian Qualification Framework [EQF]): 1500 euros
  • Boris Ljubtšenko’s coach Jaak Lukk (EQF level 6): 1500 euros
  • Erik Aaslav-Kaasik’s and Rene Suuk’s coach Ahto Aaslav-Kaasik (EQF level 6): a total of 3000 euros
  • Kärol Soodla’s coach Üllar Põvvat (EQF level 7): 1000 euros
  • Timmo Tammemäe’s and Sander Linnus’s coaches Piibe Tammemäe (EQF level 6) and Kenny Kivikas (EQF level 6): a total of 1500 euros
  • Piibe Tammemäe’s and Hannula-Katrin Pandis’s coaches Vallo Vaher (EQF level 7) and Kenny Kivikas (EQF level 6):  a total of 1500 euros
  • Mattias Reinaas’s coach Rainer Nikiforov (EQF level 3): 1000 euros

The funds for the prizes to be awarded will be allocated by the Ministry of Culture at the request of the Estonian Olympic Committee.
